“He watched endlessly night after night as she poured her heart out on stage”…~Clevette (Chyna) Roberts

Mesmerized by her voice and her confidence to follow her dreams,
Clevette Roberts is a woman destined for greatness. Born in the small town of Kinston, North Carolina she spent part of her young childhood in Baltimore, Maryland and her teenage years in Kinston. Graduating from Kinston High School she was very active in athletic sports. 

She developed a love for writing in her early childhood and was introduce to poetry shortly thereafter. Poetry became her outlet to express her feelings of adversity and overcoming. She began to write to express her feelings and thoughts to ease the trial and tribulations she experienced throughout her life. Her gift in writing began to receive recognition when she won a poetry contest in which three of her poems; Alone, Commotion, and, The Unexpected were published in an anthology.

Ms. Roberts graduated from South Eastern Academy in Kissimmee, Florida with a degree in Travel & Tourism. In addition, she obtained an Associate Degree at S.E.A in Business Computer Technology. 

Eager to rekindle her gift in spoken word poetry she began her own local poetry venue entitled lLLusions in March 2009. ILLusions is a laid back atmosphere created to enlighten and inspire others through art expression, conducive for people from all walks of life to grace the stage with their God given talents. 

Known as Chyna to the poetry community she has developed a name for herself in just a short 3 year period. Recognized in several local newspapers and magazines Ms. Roberts (Chyna) is leaving a lasting impression on audiences across North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, Texas & the DC area. 

She is the proud 2011 C.O.U.P (Community Oriented Underground Poet) nominee of the National Underground Spoken Word & Poetry Awards. Recently, she was chosen by East Carolina University’s The Choose Art Project as an up and coming artist and a facilitator of the arts. Currently, she is partnering with Kinston Library and Kinston Free Press Newspaper in Education Awareness hosting annual events for Kinston’s youth. 

She is the proud 2011 New & Up Coming Poet of the Year Nominee of the National Poetry Awards being held in Dallas, Texas. 

Ms. Roberts has a passion for working with inner city youth and helping others become successful. She is a new board member of StandUp~SpeakOut offering an extensive background in youth facilitation, mental health, criminal justice, and youth project development. 

Residing in Kinston, North Carolina with her two children 20 & 14, she enjoys family time, traveling, shopping, funny jokes, painting, drawing 
and reading a good book.
